Lucofin® in cable applications – the perfect basis for the multi-layer construction of medium, high and extra-high voltage cables

The energy of the future will be green and will come from renewable sources. It is therefore essential that energy is transported safely and over long distances from, for example, an offshore wind farm in the North Sea to consumers in the south of Germany.

The medium-voltage, high-voltage and extra-high-voltage cables used for this purpose are equipped with an electrical semiconductor for the necessary field smoothing. Lucofin® ensures that a high proportion of conductive carbon black is bonded to the polymer matrix in order to ensure the semiconductor properties and guarantee good mechanical properties. In such semiconductor compounds, special Lucofin® grades provide the required high-purity polymer base, which is guaranteed by our manufacturing process in the high-pressure tube reactor, among other things.

Even in halogen-free flame-retardant HFFR compounds (Halogen-Free Flame Retardant), Lucofin® guarantees optimum bonding of the flame retardant to the polymer matrix and a very homogeneous distribution of the flame retardants aluminium trihydroxide (ATH) or magnesium dihydroxide (MDH). The necessary high filling levels (60-70%) ensure the flame retardancy of a cable, while Lucofin® guarantees the necessary mechanical properties.

Compounds in the 75 series: Scientifically proven top performance for durable cables based on nanocomposites

Increasingly stringent flame retardancy requirements are being placed on cables and wires. In Europe, the CPR directive should be mentioned in this context. With the nanoclay masterbatch 7500, the high level of flame retardancy required can be achieved by mixing with the 74 series or other flame-retardant halogen-free compounds.
