LUCOBIT AG celebrates its 25th anniversary at its site in Wesseling near Cologne
LUCOBIT AG has been developing, producing and distributing quality materials for the plastics and bitumen processing industries for 25 years.
The idea to develop the material Lucobit was born in 1961 by BASF AG with the city of Venice in mind. They were concerned with how the foundations of the city's buildings could be better protected from seawater. This gave rise to the idea of further developing the bitumen that had previously been used, which had very poor adhesion to house walls, into an ethylene copolymer (ECB).
The product name Lucobit® was created in reference to the BASF AG site in Ludwigshafen and the products it contains:
Lu (Ludwigshafen) Co (Copolymer) Bit (Bitumen)
The brand name was entered in the international trademark register on 06.10.1967.
In addition to the development of innovative plastic roofing membranes for building construction and civil engineering, the product Lucobit was further developed for applications in road construction to produce heavy-duty asphalt pavements and patented on May 29, 1984.
During a management buy-out under the leadership of Dipl.-Ing. Robert Riegler, the product name Lucobit became the company name LUCOBIT AG based in Wesseling in May 2000.
Today, the core business of LUCOBIT AG is in the area of high-quality plastic specialties based on flexible polyolefins and in the ECB business in the area of plastic waterproofing membranes and polymer modification of asphalt pavements. In recent years, LUCOBIT AG has focused its development activities on the formulation of new products in the film sector.
In addition to applications for the hygiene sector (compounds for backsheets for diapers, breathable protective equipment) with a CaCO3 content of up to 80%, solutions for stretch hoods have also been developed, which are cheaper and faster to produce and have outstandingly high restoring forces with a lower wall thickness.
Other innovative projects are concerned with adhesion promoters for polyolefins and the production of a substitute product for bitumen that is virtually CO2-free.
LUCOBIT AG sells its products to numerous market segments via a global network of employees, distributors and agents.
Overall, research and the creation of innovative products are a central component of LUCOBIT AG's corporate philosophy.
LUCOBIT AG is highly committed to developing customer-specific solutions and believes it is well equipped to continue to play a leading role in the plastics processing industry in the future.
