Innovation and creativity have always been important routes to business success. However, in today’s global competition they are more and more becoming prerequisites for success and profitability.

In the center of LUCOBIT’s innovation strategy is the customer. The customer’s needs are absorbed by LUCOBIT’s extended agent network, then analyzed and filtered by LUCOBIT’s research and marketing department for technical as well as commercial feasibility and finally transferred into new products and applications. To ensure this procedure LUCOBIT’s research is based on several columns:

State-of the-art product development tools:
Any product development relies on performing experiments. A good experiment must be efficient. An efficient experiment is an experiment that derives the required information at the least expenditure of resources. The amount of experiments and consequently product development time can be drastically reduced applying methodologies which plan experiments systematically and compute their results statistically. LUCOBIT uses two advanced methodologies supported by adequate software tools:

• artificial neuronal networks (ANN)
• design of experiments (DOE)

Artificial neuronal networks involve calculations that are particularly suited to recognising patterns in a specific way. By entering various parameters, the system suggests solutions that are based on empirical data. In this way, values experienced in other comparable applications can be taken into account. Up to 1,500 parameters and 130,000 data records can be computed in a very short time.

Design of experiments is based on varying multiple factors at the same time during experimentation and the subsequent statistical analysis of the data obtained. The researcher can choose from a wide variety of standardized experimental designs. For a recipe optimization a mixture design is in place, for an extruder optimization a Taguchi design is more suited. Using the right design the optimum setting (sweet spot) can be approximated very closely even for complex development tasks with many influencing factors.

Research and development center
The material research at LUCOBIT combines the knowledge of more than 40 years of practical experience in the development and production of thermoplastic polyolefins. LUCOBIT’s Research and development center contains some 300 m2 and is composed of 4 different areas: chemical lab, synthesis/ preparation lab, pilote scale lab and material testing lab. Each lab is equipped with state of the art technologies using the latest methods for test- and process engineering. Thanks to these capacities LUCOBIT has the possibility to test their products in a production line and simulate products for clients. This is an important step towards optimizing production standards and gaining input about material properties. This information can help optimize the product`s applicability following each customer’s requirements.

External consultants and institutes
LUCOBIT commands an extensive internationally oriented network of external consultants and science institutes providing additional technical know-how and testing facilities when needed. This interdisciplinary and application oriented approach guarantees a superior quality level for all LUCOBIT products and innovative solutions even for highly complex challenges.
